Each year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluates all vehicles based on their safety elements and features. The evaluation includes five different crashworthiness tests, which examine how each model reacts to a variety of impacts, as well as testing the vehicle’s available crash avoidance and mitigation features. This year, the 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCrew and SuperCab received safety awards in the form of IIHS Top Safety Picks.
What is the IIHS Top Safety Pick award?
In order to qualify for the 2016 Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must earn good ratings in all five crashworthiness tests and at least a basic rating for front crash prevention. Both the 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCrew and 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCab achieved this honor and were the only large pickup trucks to do so.
