When you think about everything that the Anthony Henday Drive project included, it’s no surprise it has been going on for almost 20 years. The final northeast section has been under construction since the summer of 2012 and included the following components:

  • 189 lane km of new roadway
  • About 523 utilities
  • 47 total bridge structures
  • 58 overhead signs
  • Multiple roadway interchanges and train grade separations

The Northeast Anthony Henday Road project was split into five different segments in order to account for traffic across the northeast part of Edmonton. Upon the scheduled completion of segments three and four, the project will finally open on October 1, 2016!

What does this mean for traffic around northeast Edmonton?

Once the Northeast Anthony Henday Drive project is finished, it’s safe to say the residents and businesses located in northeast Edmonton will be thrilled! At least, that’s how we feel at Sherwood Ford. The last three years of the project have caused some major traffic issues on this side of town, and the completion of Anthony Henday Drive should help relieve a lot of that congestion, even if it’s not as clear as the example above.
