Available Diesel Engine on the 2018 Ford F-150

Big news coming from Ford, an all-new Power Stroke® Turbo Diesel engine will soon be available on the 2018 F-150.

Just when we thought that the F-150 couldn’t get any better, Ford recently announced plans to unveil a new 3.0L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel engine option available on the 2018 F-150. This new engine option brings more power, more towing capacity, and more fuel efficiency to the already-loaded F-150. While we have to wait a couple months before the F-150 trucks with diesel engines arrive at our dealership, we can barely contain our excitement here at Sherwood Ford.

F-150 Diesel Towing Capacity

Thanks to the power that diesel engines are capable of cranking out, the 2018 F-150 will receive a boost in output which will allow it to provide drivers with a best-in-class diesel 250 horsepower and up to 440 lb-ft of torque. All that power will allow the 2018 F-150 to tow loads of up to a best-in-class 11,400 pounds. The diesel engine available on the 2018 F-150 will also allow drivers to haul a massive 2020 pounds in payload.

The F-150 Diesel’s 250 hp arrives at 3200 rpm, while all 440 lb-ft is available between 1750 and 2250 rpm. The engine uses a variable-geometry turbocharger, and shares its block material and crankshaft construction with Ford’s 2.7-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6.

The diesel is only offered on Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims for regular customers—if you want a lower-spec F-150 Diesel XL or XLT, you’ll need to be a fleet buyer. You can have your diesel F-150 in either SuperCab or SuperCrew configuration in two- or four-wheel drive.

F-150 Diesel Fuel Efficiency

It’s common knowledge that diesel engines are generally more fuel efficient than their gasoline counterparts. The same can be said for the 3.0L Power Stroke Turbo Diesel and its estimated 7.8 L/100km rating on the highway when properly equipped. This powerful and efficient engine will be the perfect option for anyone who tows or hauls almost every day because of the amount that it can tow, and because of how less you’ll spend at the filling station.
