How does Forward Collision Warning with Dynamic Brake Support work?
The Forward Collision Warning system warns you when it detects a possible forward collision. The Dynamic Brake Support system can assist you in stopping the car if it detects that a forward collision is impending. Here’s a breakdown of the three courses of action these systems can take.
- Alert: The system detects stopped or slower vehicles ahead of your own. If you are rapidly approaching this vehicle, the system uses a flashing visual warning on the instrument panel as well as a warning tone to alert you to the possible danger.
- Brake support: If you continue to approach a vehicle ahead of yours without slowing, the system will pre-charge its brakes to allow for quicker braking when you do press the pedal. Even a light touch at this point will apply maximum braking power.
- Active braking: If the system decides that you are not responding to its warning and a collision is imminent, then active braking may occur. It can slow or stop the vehicle to prevent a crash.
Can you set how far ahead Forward Collision Warning looks?
You can use your vehicle’s touchscreen to set the sensitivity of the system. There are three settings. The highest setting will give earlier, more frequent warnings. This allows some customization of the Forward Collision Warning system.
