Which new electric pickup truck should I purchase? 

If you’re a fan of pickup trucks and electric vehicles, then you’ve probably heard recently that both Ford and Chevrolet are coming out with electric pickup trucks. For Ford, this is the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, and for Chevrolet, this is the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado EV. These vehicles will be directly competing against each other for your attention, which is why we’ve put them head-to-head below. Ford F-150 Lightning vs Chevrolet Silverado EV – where will they be built? 

Being recently announced, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado EV does not have a ton of information out yet, but we do know a few things about it, starting with where it will be built. Chevrolet said in a recent press release that it will be built at Factory Zero, a Chevrolet assembly plant located in Detroit and Hamtramck, Michigan. Likewise, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro will be built in Michigan, in the town of Dearborn. It will be built at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center, and Ford went so far as to tell us that it will be built by UAW-represented hourly workers. 

Ford F-150 Lightning vs Chevrolet Silverado EV – what range will they offer? 

The driving range can vary depending on trim level, driving conditions, and many other factors, but we’ll share with you the projected top driving ranges of each vehicle. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lighting is targeting a 480 km range with its available extended range battery and a 370 km range with its standard range battery. Chevrolet has said that it is targeting around 640 km of range (400 miles). We have not seen information yet on its different range options, but we assume that there will be low and high range options for different customers. 

Ford F-150 Lightning vs Chevrolet Silverado EV – when will they be released? 

Due to the difference in their model years, we can assume that these models will be coming out about a year apart. Ford Canada is already taking reservations for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning truck. On their website, it says that orders will be placed at the beginning of this fall and shipments will start in spring of next year, 2022. We did not see a date given by Chevrolet, but according to caranddriver.com, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado EV is expected to go on sale at the beginning of 2024.  

Ford F-150 Lightning vs Chevrolet Silverado EV – what battery will they have? 

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado EV will be built on their Ultium platform and utilize Ultium battery technology. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will feature an advanced lithium-ion battery pack.  

How to choose between Ford and Chevrolet electric pickup truck models 

If you want your new vehicle sooner than later, then we suggest going with the Ford F-150 Lightning, which will start out at $68,000.
