Ford Transit: Best-selling cargo van in the world

The Ford Transit lineup features a variety of well-equipped models that appeal to a wide array of fleets and business owners. Based on their high-quality craftsmanship, versatile interiors, and high-tech convenience features, it’s no surprise that the Ford Transit family is the best-selling cargo van group across the globe.

What makes Ford Transit cargo vans so popular?

Based on global new vehicle registration data from IHS Markit, nearly 400,000 Ford Transit cargo vans were registered in 2015, making Ford Transit the best-selling cargo van lineup in the world. Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Global Product Development, and chief technical officer, offers some key information regarding Ford’s ability to achieve such an outstanding feat:

“We are focused on building on our clear global leadership in trucks, vans and commercial vehicles. While other manufacturers only offer their van lineups regionally, Ford has cracked the code on developing global van architecture that can be customized to regional needs.”

Ford Transit history reaches back to 1965, when the first model rolled off the production line in England. However, the Ford Transit name didn’t arrive to North America until 2013, replacing the Ford E-Series van lineup, which gained great popularity since it was first released in 1961. Through the years, Ford has built more than 8 million Transit and Transit Custom vehicles all over the world. In fact, when lined up end-to-end, every Ford Transit van would circle the entire globe.
