Under perfect circumstances, each Ford model that is produced will roll off the lot ready to handle anything you throw at it, keeping you safe and secure. Unfortunately, errors and defects are bound to happen with the volume of vehicles that are produced, and when that happens, recalls have to be issued. We have some new information to pass along to you regarding some key Ford vehicle recalls in Canada and potential defaults that they might carry. If you’re in ownership of any of these, be sure to bring them to Sherwood Ford as soon as you can so that we can remedy the situation.
Before we begin, we should also mention that you can check your Ford model for any recall information by searching its VIN number on Ford’s owner website. Let’s get started.
Ford has announced that they have issued a recall for the following models, due to concerns regarding a potential lack of seat restraint in the event of a crash:
Each of the aforementioned vehicles will only be deemed affected if they were purchased with a manual driver and/or front passenger seat-back recliner mechanism. In addition, certain 2020 Explorer models with rear outboard seats may be affected.
The models that we’ve listed above could be missing a third pawl that is required to maintain seatback strength. In the event of a crash, this missing component (along with an improperly assembled recliner mechanism) renders the seat unable to properly restrain you in the event of a collision, greatly increasing the risk of injury.
Approximately 58,712 Ford models fit this description in Canada, though Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries that have been associated with these defaults. Still, if a model that you own fits the description we listed, be sure to bring it in so that it can get fixed.
