How can you charge your electric vehicle during a power outage? One option is to use vehicle-to-vehicle charging, available with the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Ford F-150 Hybrid. Keep reading below to learn about how vehicle-to-vehicle charging works. You can find Ford trucks here at Sherwood Ford in Sherwood Park, AB.
Vehicle-to-vehicle charging is a system that allows you to use your Ford F-150 Lightning or your Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid truck to supply power to another electric vehicle. Using Ford Pro Power Onboard with a 240-volt outlet, drivers can give power to another electric vehicle, which is a great way to provide power to another driver during a power outage. To do so, drivers just need to use a widely available power adapter to link a Ford Mobile Power Cord to their truck.
The Ford F-150 Lightning and the Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid are the first two models given this ability. In terms of which vehicles can receive power though, your options are more widespread. You can use your truck to supply charge to a similar model from Ford or a completely different model from another automaker, as long as it is an electric vehicle.
The amount of power that a vehicle receives will depend on the vehicle. The Ford Mustang Mach-E, for example, will charge at an average rate of 20 miles per charging hour. On the other hand, the Ford F-150 Lightning will charge at an average rate of 13 miles per charging hour. Given an hour or two, you’ll have enough charge to run an important errand or just to have in case of emergencies.
