Steps to making a headlight adjustment on a Ford vehicle
These steps are taken from the video above, which gives you a visual representation of the steps to take to change your headlights. It also tells you why you might need to adjust your headlights. If your headlights go out, you’ll need to get them replaced. Adjustments can help with the angle of the light.
- Gather necessary supplies. You will need a tape measure, tape, and a Phillip’s screwdriver.
- Park your vehicle. Park it about 25 feet from a garage door or wall. Park your vehicle facing the door or wall.
- Measure from the ground to the small circle which marks the center of your headlights.
- Measure that same height from step three on the wall or door. Put a piece of tape at this height, approximately in front of your vehicle’s headlight.
- Check what type of headlights your vehicle has. Look for the VOL or VOR mark on them.
- For HID lamps: The top of the headlight beam should be about two inches below the tape marker on the wall.
- For halogen lamps: The top of the headlight beam should be right on the tape marker on the wall.
- If your lights are as stated in steps 6 and 7, you do not need to adjust them. Keep following along if they need to be adjusted.
- Open your vehicle’s hood.
- Use the screwdriver to twist the headlight adjuster. Twist them until the beam is at the level specified in steps 6 or 7.
