How does my Ford Trailer Profile work?

Video and text guide to using Trailer Profiles in your truck

If you’re an avid camper, hauler, or adventurer, towing a trailer is an important part of your life. But it’s not always easy to get your trailer set up with your truck, especially if you’re constantly switching between different trailers. That’s where Ford Trailer Profiles come in. This innovative feature, available on select Ford vehicles, allows you to save and recall profiles for multiple trailers. We can help you find a truck here at Sherwood Ford in Sherwood Park, AB.

Watch this video for detailed step-by-step instructions for setting up a new trailer profile. We’ve transcribed the steps below, but the video has more details and a visual to help you with the process.

Steps to setting up a new Ford Trailer Profile

Here are seven steps to connecting your trailer to your Ford. In short, you just need to connect your trailer and follow the on-screen steps in your vehicle’s cabin. Here are more specific details.

  1. Click Add a New Trailer on your vehicle’s infotainment screen: The screen will automatically bring up a prompt when it senses a new trailer has been attached.
  2. Give your trailer a name: You have up to 20 characters for your name.
  3. Choose your trailer type: Select the option for your trailer type: conventional, gooseneck, or fifth-wheel.
  4. Choose your trailer brake type: Select the option for your trailer brakes: default (electric/surge/none) or electric over hydraulic.
  5. Choose your trailer brake effort: Options include low, medium, and high. Older trailers with heavier loads will have high trailer brake effort.
  6. Select your trailer dimensions: Input the length, height, weight, and width of your trailer.
  7. Check over your information and hit confirm.

How many profiles can I have for different trailers in my Ford?

You can store up to ten profiles for various trailers that you want to tow. This allows you to have plenty of variety in what you’re towing and to fully enjoy the profile system. Having an accurate profile could help with other safety and technology features.
