List of Ford F-150 4×4 drive mode options

The 2022 Ford F-150 offers four drive mode options. These can all be accessed at the push of a button, as seen in the video above, and once you’ve chosen a mode, you don’t have to do anything but drive as you normally would, and your vehicle will handle the rest. Check out your options.

  • 2-high mode: This mode provides a smooth ride for normal on-road driving. It also maximizes fuel economy so you can save money on fuel.
  • 4-high mode: This mode gives you more traction when you need it. You should use this mode when you’re driving off-road or in slippery winter conditions.
  • 4-low mode: This mode provides the extra power needed for climbing hills, driving in or through deep sand, or rock crawling. It is useful at low speeds.
  • 4-automatic mode: This mode determines the driving conditions and provides the appropriate power to the front and rear tires as needed. This mode helps maximize your traction and control and can be used in a variety of conditions. You can use it on a normal road, but also on wet surfaces, snow, and gravel.

Other than 4×4 drive modes, your vehicle offers another type of drive mode. These drive modes optimize your vehicle for a certain driving condition too, for the most part. Some modes are for other purposes, such as preserving fuel. Here are your options: Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery, Deep Snow/Sand, Mud/Ruts, Tow/Haul, and available Rock Crawl mode. All of these modes can be seen in the video above as well.

Some models also offer an electronic locking rear differential. This isn’t a drive mode, but it is a performance feature to be used in specific situations, and as such, it has a lot in common with the above drive modes, particularly the 4-low mode. It works well for driving in mud, in sand, or over rocks, and provides you with maximum traction. This feature is also to be used at low speeds and turned on and off manually.
