Our top nine New Year’s resolutions for 2021
Popular New Year’s resolutions for your health and wellbeing
These three New Year’s resolutions are some of the most popular ones every single year, but of course, they will be even more present this year. Coming out of the year that the pandemic started, many people are more concerned about their health and wellbeing. Try one of these New Year’s resolutions to get in shape.
- Lose weight: Make sure you set a reasonable and measurable goal. This is a hard resolution, so be kind to yourself if you struggle. Having a friend do it with you can help.
- Eat healthily: You can make this resolution more specific by giving up fast food, eating more vegetables, or trying new foods. Cooking for yourself is also a great goal. It’s late to start Veganuary, but you could do your own month of vegan eating.
- Exercise more: You don’t have to be an Olympian. Start small with more standing and walking each day. You could also join a gym or schedule your own fitness routine.
Popular New Year’s resolutions for happiness
These goals are related to how you spend your free time. They are about both productivity and fulfillment, which can lead to a greater sense of happiness. They’ve always been popular goals, but even more so now that people are working from home and find themselves with more time on their hands without their daily commutes.
- Read more: You could set a word goal, a page goal, or a book goal. Setting a page or word goal takes more math and attention, but it can measure your progress more than a book goal since they vary in length. We recommend trying audiobooks while you work.
- Travel more: It will probably be an easy goal to hit if you compare this year to last year. Many of us didn’t travel at all in 2020, but hopefully, this year can be better. Plan your next trip with the help of a guidebook or travel agent.
- Start a new hobby: If traveling and reading aren’t your things, maybe you can try something new. Peruse a list of hobbies online and give one a try. There’s nothing to lose.
Popular New Year’s resolutions related to money and success
With the pandemic striking in 2020, you may have more reasons to worry about money. Money and success goals will likely be on the rise this year. If you have money to spare, you can help support local businesses in these tough times.
- Learn something new: By this, we mean to learn a career-related skill. Computer skills are highly sought after, and you can teach yourself from home. Other skills might include time management, communication skills, or even learning a new language.
- Save money: Every year, people have the goal of saving more money. The key is to write out a tangible plan. What can you cut costs on? How can you prevent frivolous spending? Maybe you can start a retirement plan or invest money to keep yourself from spending it.
- Shop local: You may have seen that we recently wrote about ways to support small local businesses around Edmonton. We think that this goal will be much more popular this year due to so many local businesses closing their doors for good in 2020.
