The snow is falling, the celsius is dipping, and the entire vibe of Edmonton has shifted into one of cheer, goodwill and warmth, all wrapped up in red and green tinted lights and scenes. We’re talking of course about Christmas, and all month long, we’re sure you’re just as excited as our Sherwood Ford family to go take part in all the festivities that our city has to offer. So, we invite you to join us at some of the coolest Christmas light shows and events in Edmonton AB for 2018 – have fun!
The train was the driving force behind Canada’s westward expansion in the 1800s, and every two years, it returns to Edmonton and helps to spread the Christmas cheer all around. Its boxcar stage will host plenty of awesome music talent, donations to local food banks, and the whole train is lit up for the season; don’t miss it when it comes back home on December 10!
Edmonton Valley Zoo is a prime destination for both parents and kids throughout the year, and it’s set to host one of the coolest events of Christmastime all throughout December. As part of the Festival of Lights, the whole zoo is decorated in Christmas vibes, complete with ice skating, live DJs, fire dancers and hot chocolate for all guests!
From December 7-31, you’re welcome to stop by on 148 Street in Edmonton, which has transformed itself into Candy Cane Lane. Colourful light displays and breathtaking decorations line the road, and you’re even able to book a sleigh ride and see everything that’s being displayed. Again, donations to the Edmonton Food Bank are appreciated here!
The Varscona Theatre is one of the best spots for entertainment in Northwest Edmonton, and this year, you’re welcome to stop by on December 14 and 15 for six ballets and holiday-centric entertainment. Plus, after the show there will be seasonal cocktails presented by Strathcona Distillery!
Christmas music is present in every generation, and the Big Band/Swing eras aren’t dead yet, especially if you ask the River City Big Band ensemble. They’ll be presenting their own spin on the Christmas culture at Betty Andrews Recital Hall on December 19, featuring seasonal music and a performance from W.P Wagner High School’s Jazz Band!
One of the best Christmas concerts of the year is, fittingly, taking place close to the holiday itself. Come by Winspear Centre between December 21 and 23 to hear all your favourites, including Let It Snow, The Christmas Song, White Christmas and more. Tickets start at only $15, so don’t miss out!
