A Food Drive for the Strathcona Food Bank was coordinated by the team at the Sherwood Ford Service Center with customers in February to lend a hand to the charity. As a long-term ongoing supporter of the Food Bank, the dealership in Sherwood Park, Alberta collected donations from its Service customers in exchange for a special discount. Keep reading to learn how the Food Bank has tackled feeding the hungry in the community.
Food Banks are an important source of food for people. In Sherwood Park and area, 9,198 residents received food hamper assistance in 2020. Of those residents, 45 percent were teens and children. In addition 464 community agencies also turned to the Food bank for assistance. These include in the Edmonton area the Hope Mission, Salvation Army, A Safe Place, Urban Ministry and many others providing supports to residents. With less financial aid provided by Government combined with higher unemployment and COVID, more people unable to purchase food to feed themselves are turning to the Food Bank in 2021.
Strathcona Food Bank has been serving Strathcona County and Sherwood Park residents since 1983. Generous donations are always appreciated. During the Lend a Helping Hand Food Drive in February, customers visiting the Sherwood Ford Service Center for car maintenance dropped off food donations. As a result, the Food Drive ended with a total of 787.5 pounds of non-perishable food and items that were collected. The dealership dropped off the delivery to the Strathcona Food Bank in the Sherwood Ford Courtesy Shuttle Transit Connect.
Strathcona Food Bank has been serving Strathcona County and Sherwood Park residents since 1983. The charitable organization is operated by 150 volunteers working 5 days a week, and a volunteer Board of Directors. They rely on donations to provide food assistance to those in need in Sherwood Park and rural Strathcona County. Over 300,000 pounds of food and goods was donated in 2020.
