Sherwood Park is sending one of it’s finest to Italy to represent The Canada Inline Junior Men’s National Team at the Inline Skating World Championship 2016! Matthew Sparrow is one of four Albertan’s chosen by Canada Inline and The International Federation of Roller Sports to represent the junior boys 2016 Team Canada Roster. Inline Skating World Championship 2016
It takes long hours of training and dedication for an athlete to reach this level and make the final cut for the Inline Skating World Championship. Nearly 200 athletes from four Canadian provinces were competing for the final roster. Sherwood Park’s Matthew Sparrow will be strapping on his inline skates to play for Canada at the Federation International Roller Sports World Championships. Matthew, together with 13 other skaters, were chosen to represent the Maple Leaf for Team Canada’s under 18 Junior Men’s team. The players are being sent to Roana, Italy for The International Federation of Rollers Sports championship game June 11th to 17th. 17 year old Matthew is a student from Bev Facey Community High School in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Matt says he’s proud to represent his country and hopes to bring home the gold!
14 countries are participating in the International Inline Skating World Championship in Italy.
The International Federation of Roller Sports (FIRS) has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the world governing body of roller sports. FIRS and Canada Inline have a long standing relationship . Together they lead the proposal for participation as a non Olympic sport in the 2015 Pan Am Games. FIRS continue to participate in annual World Inline Championship events.
