Whether you’re taking the kids for a trip around the neighbourhood, or getting your friends together for a night out at some costume parties, we can feel it in the air- Halloween is right around the corner! We want to help you have as much fun as possible during the festivities, so come check out the peak trick or treat times in Edmonton this year, as well as some helpful trick-or-treating safety tips that our Sherwood Ford team has put together!
Being that the weather here in Edmonton is prone to get cold earlier in the day, it’s in your best interest to head out before the sun starts to go down. Most Edmonton residents will open up their doors for trick or treating around 5:30 pm, and end things around 9 pm. It goes without saying that three and a half hours is more than enough time for your kids to load up on all the candy and sweets that they want!
It’s not exclusive to Edmonton by any means, but a good telltale factor that someone is passing out candy is either a well-lit house or a lit pumpkin decoration on the front porch. The last thing you want to do is be waiting for a while at a house that isn’t participating.
Be sure to check back to our Community Blog for more fun throughout the year!
Speaking of which, while Halloween can be fun, it can also be dangerous with the amount of people that are out and about. So, we’ve come up with a couple safety tips you can utilize to make sure your kids are all good:
If your kids are old enough to venture out for Halloween alone, absolutely make sure that they stick to a couple neighbourhoods close to your house. You never want to get a call from them saying they don’t know where they are. Also, it should go without saying, but young children should never go out trick or treating without a parent or guardian present.
There are a lot of people that take part in trick or treating every year, but every neighbourhood will still have people driving through the streets to get back home. If you can help it, stay in a group to cross the streets, and never go out there by yourself.
For any reason, if you’re uncomfortable taking your kids out on the town, there are a lot of gathering centres that you can visit for the same fun experience. West Edmonton Mall, Bonnie Doon Centre, and many more locales around Edmonton will usually have some form of trick or treating, so check them out instead if you want!
