The holidays can be a particularly hard time for charities. They often find themselves with a greater demand during the holiday season, which means that they need to ask the community for more resources. If you are looking for places to donate to for the holidays near Edmonton, AB, there are many options. Keep reading below to find out where you can donate to help the community around Edmonton.
Last month, we held our annual food drive to collect supplies for the Edmonton Food Bank and the Strathcona Food Bank. Even if you missed the event, you could still donate to one of these locations, and we can attest that they are great charities that make a difference in our community. Your other options for donating canned or boxed food products include the Campus Food Bank at the University of Alberta or one of the other food banks listed on Food Banks Alberta.
Most years, our community comes together to donate clothes and food to the Strathcona Christmas Bureau. Unfortunately, they are only accepting gift cards this year, but there are still plenty of places to donate your extra clothing and toys. We suggest contacting your local Salvation Army thrift store or contacting your local homeless shelter to see if they are accepting gifts of this nature.
We’ve previously written about some of our favorite animal rescues in the Edmonton area, which include the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society, Zoe’s Animal Rescue Society, and the Edmonton Humane Society. Of course, there are plenty of other animal rescues in the area, and no animal rescue is a bad place to donate your supplies. If you find yourself with extra pet supplies this holiday season, consider donating it to the shelter or rescue nearest you.
The good thing is that most charities, including the ones we have listed on this page, accept monetary donations. The bad news is that this may leave you with an overwhelming decision. It can be a hard choice, but just remember that donating to any of these charities during the holiday season is a great way to give back to your community. The benefits of making a monetary donation are that you can often do so online and that the money can be put towards whatever the charity needs most.
