Relay For Life 2016 in Sherwood Park

Relay For Life – whether you are cheering on survivors, walking the track, passing the baton to your teammate or joining in exciting trackside activities, Relay For Life is more than just a cancer walk – it’s a journey. Relay For Life 2016 in Sherwood Park is a community fundraising event Sherwood Ford is proud to sponsor.  This is where we join together in the fight against cancer!

Relay For Life

The event was first held in in Canada in 1999 and raised $85,000. Together, we have come a long way. In total, Relay For Life has raised over $496.5 million for the Canadian Cancer Society. These funds are used to support Canada’s most promising cancer research and vital support services for people with cancer and their families. With your help, the Society has been able to impact so many lives.

“I’m a strong supporter of Relay For Life – I know firsthand what type of impact the money raised can have. The stem cell transplant I underwent as part of my treatment was the result of research funded by the Canadian Cancer Society.” – Carrie Walk-Boyd, Hodgkin lymphoma survivor and Relay For Life participant

The Greater Edmonton Region Relay for Life in Sherwood Park is having a 12 hour event of walking, running and strolling around the beautiful Broadmoor Lake.  It runs Saturday June 11th from Noon until Midnight.  Relay 2016 will include activities throughout the day.  The day kicks off with an inspiring Survivors Lap and at dusk will have a few minutes of solitude with luminary lighting to honor those fighting the battle and remember those lost.  This will be a day you’ll cherish as an unforgettable experience and never forget!

In 2015 alone, 196,900 Canadians were diagnosed with cancer. That means that every 3 minutes, one Canadian heard the words “you have cancer.”

Your support matters. Every dollar you raise or donate makes a difference – lives are changed and saved every day because of Relay For Life. By supporting Relay For Life, you’ll help:

  • Fund Canada’s most promising cancer research to save more lives. More people are surviving cancer than ever before. Today, more than 60% of people diagnosed with cancer will survive compared to only about 25% in the 1940s when we began funding research.
  • Ensure no one has to face cancer alone. We offer compassionate and personalized services to those diagnosed with cancer, as well as supporting their families and friends. We are here to help answer questions about treatment, diagnosis, care and more. We help connect people when they need to talk and link them to other services in their community.
  • Stop cancer before it starts. Our researchers are leading the fight to prevent cancer while we promote healthy lifestyles and advocate for policies that protect our health and support people with cancer and caregivers.
