The excitement and aura of summer might be winding down, but it’s always fun to look back on the festivities that you took part in. We were quite busy throughout the last three months, and today, we wanted to give you a quick look at what we’ve been up to for the month of August. Come check out our community wrap up for August 2019 at Sherwood Ford – it’s always our pleasure to help spread positivity and fun to the great members of our Edmonton family!
Chase the Cure YEG’s Race of Honour for Alberta Cancer Foundation
On August 17th, we were proud to partner with Chase the Cure YEG – a local organization dedicated to raising money to help fund cancer research and prevention – in support of its annual Race of Honour event, benefiting the Alberta Cancer Foundation. We’d first like to thank everyone who came out for the races at Edmonton International Raceway, either to support or just have a good time. Our #NATIONTRUCK was the official pace truck for the event, and proceeds from the racing day equated to over $7,000!
Our sponsorship of Chase the Cure YEG was all month long, too – in this, our ninth year of support for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. We saw 437 guests and friends come in to test drive a Ford model on our dealership’s lot. From there, we were able to cut a check for an additional $4,370, for a combined total of over $11,000 all going directly to the Foundation and its programs. In our eyes, this was a GIANT success, and we have you all to thank!
World’s Longest Baseball Game (also in support of Alberta Cancer Foundation)
Watching the Blue Jays this year, it might seem like all baseball games go on for basically forever. This time around, however, we were able to check one out for a great cause. Over four days in August, 56 players and hundreds of volunteers came to the University of Alberta in hopes of shattering the Guinness World Record for longest baseball game – the best part is that all proceeds raised went entirely to help the Cross Cancer Institute with its programs.
Players and Umpires alike had specific fundraising goals that they greatly exceeded, and Sherwood Ford was proud to sponsor $2,500 for the games as well. Final tallies have estimated all total donations for the Alberta Cancer Foundation at over $460,000!
Mighty Millions Lottery in support of Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation
We don’t suggest going out to buy a lottery ticket if you can avoid it, but take a peek at Mighty Millions! All proceeds will go towards benefiting the Stollery Children’s Hospital, and the early Bonus prize before Sept 27th is one of our very own Ford Raptor models! If you win, you’ll get to pick from each Raptor that we carry!
Hole-in One Sponsors for three different opens and events
Chipping a ball onto the green is a tough task no matter your skill level, but our Sherwood Ford team was proud to offer great prizes at the end to those who could sink a shot in three different hole-in-one events. Unfortunately, no winning shot took away the new Mustang as a hole-in-one prize at the Frontline Celebrity Golf Classic. Our very own #NATIONTRUCK was also up for grabs at the 3rd annual OilersNation Open Golf event. Some drives came VERY Close to a hole-in-one, but again the prize wasn’t won in this tournament.
Another highlight for us during August took place at the Mark Spector Golf Classic, which we sponsored along with Sports Central in its goal of helping children. Not only were we hole-in-one sponsors to win a Mustang, but we also got to meet Oilers head coach Dave Tippett, who stopped in for a photo! #tipstache
A GIANT “Thank You!” to all those that helped make August an awesome month for us. Check back to our Community blog often for even more events and partnerships that our dealership takes part in year-round!
