Growing up in Edmonton, it’s every young hockey player’s dream to be able to take the ice as an adult in those iconic Edmonton Oilers sweaters. From legendary players of Oilers past like Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri and Mark Messier, to modern-day favourites such as Connor McDavid, Leon Drasaitl and Cam Talbot, our city has seen some of the best hockey moments in NHL history firsthand. That’s why our Sherwood Ford team is so proud to be able to help our community’s kids get to live out their dreams on the ice every single day.
Last month, we were able to send a group of young Sherwood Park players to take the Rogers Place ice as part of the Ford Small Stars Series. Check it out below!
About the Ford Small Stars Series
Throughout the 2018-2019 NHL season, the Small Stars Hockey series has given many Edmonton kids the ability to live out their dreams on the ice, just like the pros. During Oilers home games that have this promotion, Minor Hockey Initiation teams (made up of kids from ages 5 and 6) play scrimmages against each other during the first intermission, with thousands of fans cheering them on along the way; they’re also able to meet the players themselves!
Sherwood Ford’s Small Stars Partnership with Sherwood Park Oilers
We had the privilege of being able to sponsor our hometown minor hockey team, the Sherwood Park Oilers, during the Small Stars Series. Our team provided 20 tickets for the Oilers’ game against the Winnipeg Jets on New Year’s Eve, complete with a limo ride to Rogers Place thanks to Legends Limousine. Not only did our boys get the opportunity to play on the arena’s ice, but they also were recognized on the Rogers Place video score clock, along with an official acknowledgement over the Rogers Place PA system!
It’s moments like these that make us so proud to be active in the Sherwood Park community, from helping out with food drives and Christmas gift donation services, to giving our local kids the time of their lives doing what they love. It was certainly an experience that none of these players will soon forget!
