Sherwood Ford sends two Youth Hockey Teams to Ford Small Stars Series in Edmonton
Growing up, it’s been every Edmonton kid’s dream to be able to lace up the skates, tape up the stick, and take the ice at Rogers Place (and Rexall Place before that) with an Oilers sweater on. Like the legends of the Oilers dynasty in the 80s and the new talent that promises to carry our boys into the future of the NHL, Edmonton’s arenas have always been special.
It’s because of this that it was our distinct pleasure to give two youth hockey clubs the chance to take the ice at Rogers Place as part of the Ford Small Stars series. Keep reading below to meet the teams and kids that skated in the house that McDavid built!
About the Ford Small Stars Series
Ford Small Stars is an event that we look forward to every year – this time around, two local teams (the Golden Gophers and Red Devils) had the opportunity to skate and play in an exhibition game during intermission of the Oilers vs. Flames game on December 27! As you can see in the photos below, the players were also lined up in the tunnel at period break, giving them the chance to meet Oilers favourites like Mikko Koskinen, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Not only did the kids get to play and live their dreams on the Rogers Place ice, but they were also given a special shoutout over the PA system and got recognized as a team on the scoreboard! It’s moments like this that make us so proud to be a partner not only of the Oilers, but of so many kids and parents that love the spirit that hockey is able to provide.
