Ever since 1845, people around the nation have celebrated the efforts Queen Victoria made to confederate Canada, as well as help turn it into the prosperous, strong and free country that it is today. Being that it generally takes place on the penultimate long weekend of May, it’s also ceremoniously known as the official start to summer in Canada. There’s always some fun festivities to take part in. With this, we invite you to gather your friends and families and come out to some of the coolest May Long weekend celebrations in and around Edmonton AB. Have a great time!
Victoria Day Weekend usually signifies the opening of Fort Edmonton Park, whose opening celebrations are certainly something to marvel at. The whole family is invited from May 19-21 for vintage attractions, historical exhibits, the iconic steam train, and tons of fun around every corner!
Following the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash last month, we saw the whole Canadian community gather to support the families of those who were taken from us. On May 17, three hometown comics will be taking the stage (Trevor Wilson, Kelly Taylor, and Rick Bronson), and all proceeds will go to support the victims.
On Victoria Day itself (May 21) you’re all welcome to come to the Ukranian Cultural Heritage Village for its annual spring celebration. Plenty of traditional dances, kids’ activities, and costumed role-playing will all be on display, making it a perfect start to the new season for everyone that comes out!
The long holiday weekend is always a prime time to catch some of your favourite artists as well, and famous artists such as the Eagles, Queens of the Stone Age, Northern Pikes and more will be making their way to Edmonton soon; there’s never been a better time to get your tickets!
