The World’s Longest Hockey Game is back again in 2018 and the team at Sherwood Ford has generously decided to donate $5 for every one of Dustin Nielson’s goals.
For the sixth time in history, the World’s Longest Hockey Game will go on right here in Sherwood Park. Over the years, the game has raised over one million dollars for cancer research at the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and this year looks like it very well could be another record-setting game. Along with many other businesses here in the Edmonton area and across Alberta, we here at Sherwood Ford are sponsoring one of the many athletes who will be lacing up for the game.
About the World’s Longest Hockey Game
It all started back in 1996 when a man named Dr. Brent Saik created the Annual Terry Saik Memorial Golf Tournament in honor of his late father. After seeing the popularity of the event, Brent decided to organize one of the most successful events in the history of the Alberta Cancer Foundation, the World’s Longest Hockey Game, back in 2003. The first game was also held in the honor of Brent’s father. And raised over $150,000 for the Foundation.
Since then, the game has grown immensely with people from all over the Province coming down to skate, donate and watch the World’s Longest Hockey Game unfold. The last year the event was held, skaters and their sponsors raised over one million dollars to donate to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. More than money, this game also shows us just how compassionate and caring we can all be towards one another. Unfortunately, cancer is something that affects every family in some way or another and the game is one way to come together and show support.

Sherwood Ford Sponsors Dustin Nielson
For this year’s World’s Longest Hockey Game, we here at Sherwood Ford have bumped up our usual donation of $1 a goal to $5 every time Dustin Nielson scores. While we know that not everybody can donate that much, we hope to inspire other businesses in the area to donate what they can to this truly amazing cause.
